DocBook - Overview

DocBook is a Document Type Definition (DTD) which is in the formats SGML and XML and freely available. DocBook is suitable for technical documentations particularly and it is possibly to distribute different formats. The documentation is written only once and can be published repeatedly ("single sourcing").

In the following examples I confine myself to the XML format of DocBook.
